MY STORY
background
My love affair with content and copyright started in Boston, where I was getting my MFA and losing a daily battle with a film camera that, to this day, I swear hated me. To pay the bills, I worked at a photo research company, digging through slides and 8x10 prints to fill some of the strangest image requests you can imagine.
From there, life took me on a real tour: Detroit, back to Boston, out to San Francisco, and a few stops in between. Somewhere in the middle of it, I picked up a law degree and fell hard for copyright and what I like to call all things rights adjacent. What started as instinct turned into a career. I left traditional publishing for technology, managing teams large and small, building some great products, and supporting artists and creative organizations along the way. Somewhere in that shift, I found the place I actually wanted to be - the intersection where copyright, creativity, and technology crash into one another.
Over the years, I have touched nearly every part of the content and rights lifecycle. There may be an exception or two, but I have come close to doing them all: from text and copy to photos and graphics to code and online experiences to 3D and immersive to templates and AI to design systems and CX. I have negotiated acquisitions and built the distribution pipelines that carry content out into the world. I have gone deep into metadata and taxonomy, the invisible architecture that makes content findable and usable, and even deeper into licensing, permissions, and risk assessment, where one small mistake can spiral into real, damaging consequences. I have built content moderation policies, untangled third-party rights questions, built custom partnerships from scratch, and grown communities of creators who trusted me and my team with their work. Through it all, I have learned that honesty, humor, and collaboration can get you and your team through almost anything. What I have built is a strange and wonderful kind of expertise that, to be honest, I would not trade it for anything else in the world.
Outside of work, I am probably wearing something a little too bold, sitting in a room that is intentionally, unapologetically too much, and reading a book that promises to take me someplace fantastic. I have a love for well-made jumpsuits, an amazing nori roll, and my cat, Bean. To this day, I still cannot resist the "I am not a cat" legal meme, and you can often find me pacing around my house attempting yo-yo tricks I may someday master.
philosophy
Great content, products, and experiences should feel fearless, while keeping compliant and aware of the legal landmines along the way. Too often, confusion sits between stakeholders, negatively impacting progression and collaboration. My goal is to build bridges between executive leadership, legal, product, engineering, and design, so all sides can move forward quickly, efficiently, and with a successful end result.
I turn legal understanding into rocket fuel, not a roadblock. Rights and licensing should empower stakeholders with knowledge, not cause confusion or stall the discussion.
I build confidence with compliance. A team that understands why a recommendation exists is aware when to ask questions while feeling empowered to ask the right questions at the right time.
I help legal and non-legal partners speak the same language. I translate in both directions, ensuring decisions get made quickly and safely while every stakeholder understands the reasoning.
I teach people to spot the moment that matters. Not every question needs an expert. Knowing the one that does, and asking it, changes everything.
I measure success by communication efficiency over time. A team should have the tools to build a shared communication framework, one that unifies different ways of working and packages information in a way that gets results.
The companies that get this right do not just avoid risk. They out-create, out-excite, and out-pace everyone still too afraid to elevate the discussion.
